Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska showed her remarkable craft and penetrated into Women’s Singles quarter-final after ousting her team-mate Marissa Vania Liske in the round-of-16 at Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open 2012 in Indonesia, on Friday, May18.
Gregoria, who was seeded at number 2 in Women’s Singles draw, had to dig into her arsenal to produce impressive form and she managed to overpower her spirited challenger in a sensational fight that took 50 minutes of entertaining badminton from both ladies.
The second seeded Gregoria could not find a good start in the match but found her rhythm in time and won the second and third set and advanced into the quarter-final stage.
On the other hand, the 16th seeded Marissa played tremendous badminton and also grabbed the first set with a tight margin.
However, she remained unable to maintain her consistency in the following games and lost the match in three games in 50 minutes.
In the first game, Gregoria tried her best but could not manage an early lead as her lower ranked rival was flawless in the court.
Both ladies progressed while remaining toe-to-toe until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Gregoria tried to play with aggression but failed to take control of rallies and eventually lost the set with a close 19-21 margin on the board.
In the second set, Gregoria played with superb precision as she did not lose her focus and managed to take a remarkable advantage until the mid-game break.
After the break, Marissa tried to find her rhythm by accelerating her speed but failed to play dominating badminton.
Gregoria was playing on a different level and took the second set with a superb 21-12 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Gregoria was in a commanding position when she played attacking badminton and took a stunning lead until the mid-game break.
After the break, the second seeded Gregoria continued putting up superb show in the court and won the set with a one-sided 21-12 score on the board.
Gregoria overpowered Marissa in this sensational three-set contest in 50 minutes with a margin of 19-21, 21-12 and 21-12.
