Jakarta Open 2012: M Tegar, Zakia Ulfa power their way to Mixed Doubles pre quarter-finals
Mixed Doubles experts M Tegar and Zakia Ulfa penetrated into pre quarter-final round of Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open after overwhelming compatriot duo of Dedi Mukti Indrianto-Cynthia Shara Ayunidha on May 16, 2012.
The second round match prolonged to 35 minutes and was resolved with final results of 21-16, 13-21 and 21-18.
Tegar and Zakia, who are also top seed in tournament, employed unbeatable strategy throughout three sets and literally earned this honour to be in the top sixteen teams of the home event.
However, the commendable performance from opposing team Dedi Mukti-Cynthia Shara also fetched great deal of respect and they walked with high heads despite the 1-2 defeat.
In the opening game, Tegar and Zakia’s coordination was superb as they forged fruitful chemistry to bag first match point.
They opened their attack with great intensity and pushed their opponents on back-foot with some power packed rallies in the beginning.
At mid-game break, they were standing at dominating position with 11 points in score log.
After the interval, they lost focus for a short period of time and their competitors Dedi Mukti-Cynthia Shara made swift progress with some consecutive points but Tegar and Zakia finished opening game with a decent margin of 21-16.
The twosome of Dedi Mukti and Cynthia Shara utilised the confidence which they earned from strong resistance of first set.
This time they read their rival’s game early and initiated counter strategy which ultimately helped them to gain a comfortable advantage in start.
In first half, they completely confined their higher ranked challengers in rear court with blistering smashes and entered in break as leading pair.
Though, they blundered in third quarter of set and allowed the opposing team to narrow the gap but final stage saw them everywhere in the court.
Mixed Doubles partners Dedi Mukti and Cynthia Shara levelled match score by claiming second set with a significant total of 21-13.
The decider kept the audience intact as both pairs put great show of skills to cement their spot in the pre quarter-finals.
They remained close during most of the third set but finally the partnership of Tegar and Zakia swept the board with 21-18 and setup a clash with Asnan M-Shinta Dwi for a quarter-final spot.
