Jakarta Open 2012: Yoga Pratama stuns Ridho Akbar in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle
Indonesia’s in-form player Yoga Pratama showed his aggressive skills in the Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle where he stunned his higher ranked rival Ridho Akbar at the Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open 2012 on Friday, May 18, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
The un-seeded Pratama, who showed up his impressive skills in all of his matches in the tournament, continued her giant-killing run at the round-of-16 stage and ousted the eighth seed Akbar in a marvellous fashion.
The lower ranked Pratama was simply incredible in his game plan as he did not show any sign of mercy to his higher ranked compatriot and topples him in straight games.
On the other hand, the 8th seed Akbar tried his best to play positive and aggressive badminton but failed to escape defeat from the hands of his lower ranked rival and lost the contest in two games of 30 minutes.
In the first set, both players started their run in a convincing manner as they did not drop the pace of rallies and also progressed closely on the board.
Until the 60-second mid-game interval in first game, it was Pratama who managed to take a small lead on the score board.
After the interval, he continued playing aggressive badminton and moved his higher ranked opponent around in all corners of the court.
The lower ranked Pratama remained positive in the whole set and bagged it with a sensational score of 21-18.
In the second game, Akbar showed his brilliance by playing dominating badminton in the opening rallies but failed to build lead as his lower ranked team-mate was also playing with precision.
Until the 60-second break in the second game, both men failed to set up a comfortable lead on the board.
After the break, both shuttlers continued their striking performance in the court and reached at the crucial stage of 20-20.
At this breath-taking situation, Pratama showed no sign of confusion and managed to win the second set with a dramatic score of 22-20.
The un-seeded Pratama wrapped up this battle in straight games with a superb 21-18 and 22-20 score on the board.
