Jakarta Open: Gladys Virginia Sumito overpowers Dini Aryanti in Women’s Singles first round
Indonesia’s Gladys Virginia Sumito found a good start when she overpowered Dini Aryanti in Women’s Singles first round of the Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open 2012 on Tuesday, May 15, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
Virginia had to work hard in the opening fight of the tournament and she remained successful in beating her spirited opponent in a prolonged battle that took 50 minutes of attacking badminton from both sides.
The in-form Virginia lost the first game but changed her tactics and remained successful in taking the following games with a decent margin and won the match to penetrate into second round.
On the other hand, Aryanti started her run in the match in a dominating manner as she played with precision. However, she failed to maintain her upper hand in the match and lost the fight in rubber sets.
In the first game, Virginia failed to start it well as she executed many negative shots which helped his rival to take an early lead.
Until the break, Aryanti was in strong position when she set up a good gap on the board.
After the interval, Virginia tried to catch up but she failed to play aggressive game and lost the set with a comfortable margin of 15-21.
In the second set, Virginia played composed game as she changed her game plan and also played safe shots which helped her to remain positive and ahead of her rival.
Virginia continued her elevated game in the second set and set up a good lead until the one-minute interval in the game.
After the break, Virginia remained on track as she did not drop the pace of rallies and bagged the game with a margin of 21-14.
In the deciding set of this fight, both ladies remained toe-to-toe until the one-minute break.
The score progressed equally as both ladies were in their prime form. They reached at the ending phase when Virginia showed her brilliance and managed to win the game with a tight margin of 21-19.
The in-form Virginia managed to win this entertaining battle in three games with a margin of 15-21, 21-14 and 21-19.
