Jake Anderson enters into a footwear deal with DVS Shoe Company
The star of Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” and a seasoned skater, Jake Anderson has joined hands with DVS Shoes, the California-based shoe company, to design a special edition of a skate shoe.
The 29-year-old Anderson will be working with the DVS Shoes team to enhance and personalise the signature shoe of team rider and creator of Grizzly Griptape, Torey Pudwill's Torey Mid. The Seattle-based skater will take up the shoe and add his own colours
and materials to it which would result in a special edition of a product that was already popular among the skateboarding community.
Watching Kerry Getz ride for the DVS Shoe Company in 1998 inspired Anderson to get his first pair. He would have never thought at that time that somewhere down the road, he would be collaborating with the shoe company to come up with his own personalised
design.
In one of the seasons of “Deadliest Catch”, Anderson was joined by Tim Dowling. Noticing that the latter was wearing DVS Shoes, the seasoned skater revealed his passion for the sport to Dowling and from there on, the two became friends.
Dowling eventually introduced Anderson to one of the co-founders of DVS Shoes, Tim Gavin. Impressed with the ideas that the Seattle-based skater had in mind, Gavin decided to take him on-board to design a special edition of Anderson’s long-time favourite
Torey Mid.
“I picked the Torey Mid. I have always been into skating ever since I was a kid. I can actually work and wear these on the boat, instead of only being able to wear them around town.” Anderson said. “Yes I hooked up the whole NW crew with the shoes and they’re
hyped”
While the deal between Anderson and DVS Shoes is confined to the designing of Torey Mid, Gavin has hinted that the relationship between the two entities is likely to become deeper over the course of time.
“Any relationship we establish is long term," Gavin elaborated. "This could lead to other things, most definitely."
Anderson began skating at the age of 19 and made a solid impact in various competitions. However, he ended up sustaining a serious ankle injury that brought his skating career to an end and he was forced to take up fishing in order to earn his livelihood.
