Jake Delhomme to work out for Houston Texans, Matt Schaub backs T.J. Yates for QB – NFL News
Quarterback-starved Houston Texans are desperate for a replacement of Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart who are on the sideline because of their injuries.
Two solutions have come up so far for the Texans to solve their problem. One option is that they are going for a free agent player, Jake Delhomme, who is expected to work for them in their practice session on Tuesday.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak had hinted at signing of a new player for quarterback position. He however did not mention who was the potential candidate. It is being expected he might be Delhomme depending upon how he performs in practice
and what promising skills he holds for the Texans.
Delhomme is a 36 years old veteran player. His game numbers include 20,764 yards he had thrown during his whole career. In addition, 125 yards with 101 interceptions. He has played in 10 seasons of National Football League (NFL),
American football's premier league, consecutively. He played for the Cleveland Browns in 2010 and after four games gave it away to their rookie quarterback Colt McCoy.
Meanwhile, as a solution number two, Texans quarterback star Matt Schaub has backed their fifth-round pick Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates to start at quarterback position for the Texans. T.J. Yates was brought in as a replacement
to Matt Leinart who was injured in their last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played only second quarter of the game and managed to hold eight out of total 15 passes for a total 70 yards. His performance is not considered to be an impressive one
but still the Texans had an immediate alternate solution to their injuries vows. Now they also have backing of their original quarterback Matt Schaub to allow Yates start as a quarterback for the Texans.
"T.J., for being a rookie, he's probably picked this offense up to the point where he can function in it well, faster than anyone I've seen, including myself, including a lot of players that I've been around. ..." Schaub told KILT-FM.
"That's a big credit to him, because this is not an easy offense to pick up. ... I personally have a ton of confidence that he's going to go in there and play very well.”
The Texans with their latest win over the Jaguars hold a two-game lead over the Tennessee Titans in American Football Conference (AFC) south division. However, their latest scare of injuries is threatening their lead especially
if they do not find a right placement to Schaub and Leinart.
Leinart was brought in as a replacement of Matt Schaub whose participation in rest of games in current football season has become impossible due to foot injury. He impressed everyone with his game in first participation and again
started in their game against the Jaguars.
He too suffered a shoulder injury in second quarter of the game, and was forced out to be at the sideline. Initial tests on Leinart have been said to be inconclusive and it is now being feared that he might have suffered a season-threatening
collarbone injury. He has expressed doubts about his return to play again in current season.
Schaub's and Leinart’s absence has left the Texans to look for a replacement immediately. Their problem is expected to be solved by either relying on Yates or signing a new player.
