Jake Higginbottom gains a decisive through halfway of the Keperra Bowl
Jake Higginbottom has gained the second round lead in the Keperra Bowl at the Keperra Country Golf Club in Brisbane after a neck-to-neck battle with the contender Daniel McGraw, who finished for the second place, trailing by one shot.
Higginbottom scored a five-under, 67 to close with an aggregate of 10-under by the end of half way stage of the tournament. McGraw continued his blistering charge and finished five-under, 67, and with his equally good Day 1 score of four-under, 68, he is
comfortably settled in the second place, two shots ahead of Corey Crawford of St. Helens. Crawford scored a four-under, 68 for the day and closed with an aggregate of seven-under, after 36 holes.
Higginbottom, who has come out of his recent victory at the Queensland Amateur Championship at Arundel Hills Golf Club, is bound the set the course ablaze with his crafted sport for the next two rounds at the Keperra Bowl. The player defeated Tim Hart to
win the challenge at Arundel hills and is improving his skills at the sport, continuously adding excellence to his game.
Higginbottom is also the winner of the South Wales Amateur title in 2010, where he dumped Tommy Fleetwood of England to record a decisive victory with 3 & 2. The player made it to the finals by defeating formidable challenges like Dimitrios Pappadatos in
the quarter final, 1-up and Adam Mollis in the first round with 9 & 8.
Overnight leader Steven Slappendel, who stunned the field with his outstanding eight-under, 64 for the first day, slipped tied for 15th with a lackluster performance on the second day. His opening round featured no less than eight birdies and
an eagle and the golfer has emerged a serious challenge for the contenders, only to fizzle away on Day 2.
Several players are tied for the fourth place, four shots behind the leader, Higginbottom. Keperra’s infamous fast greens continued to pose serious obstacle for players contending in the event as only three or four putts were recorded for the day.
The halfway cut was placed at the five-over, with 72 players plus ties proceeding to the third round of the tournament.
