Jake Hodgetts and Ryan Leonard secure gold medals – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Jake Hodgetts and Ryan Leonard of New South Wales (NSW) securedgold medals of 200m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley (IM) in the Boys 14-15 years old class, on the finishing day of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The event
took place on September 19, at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
The session also included two more events, 100m butterfly and 100m breast-stroke in the 14-15 years old age group.
The first event of the session was 200m freestyle, where Hodgetts earned gold medal of the event with a fantastic time of 1 minute and 51.31 seconds. He was followed by Max Muggeridge of Queensland (QLD), who remained nearly 1.50 seconds slower than his
former finisher and reached the podium for silver medal, by posting a time of 1 minute and 52.78 seconds. The third spot of the race was secured by Hodgetts’s team-member, Jacob Hansford, who remained 0.93 seconds slower than him and earned bronze medal with
a timing of 1 minute and 53.71 seconds.
In 400m IM, 14-year-old Leonard presented a wonderful effort of 4 minutes and 29.78 seconds to occupy gold medal of the event. With his immaculate swim, he remained almost one seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Mack Horton of Victoria (VIC), who submitted
a time of 4 minutes and 30.41 seconds for silver medal.  Horton was in a lead of 5.19 seconds over Leonard’s team-member, Jake Baggaley, who reported a second fastest time of 4 minute and 35.60 seconds.
Subsequently, NSW’s Edward Marks dominated the final of 100m butterfly swim by clocking a top ranked time of 55.84 seconds. Marks was chased by Andrew Walker of Western Australia (WA), who won silver medal of the event by touching the wall in 57.08 seconds.
NSW’s Jacob Hansford followed Walker on the podium for bronze medal, by producing a time of 57.13 seconds.
Finally, the crown witnessed a breath-taking effort of Max Muggeridge in the 100m breast-stroke final. Muggeridge remained comfortably ahead of his closest competitors and earned the title of the event, by posting a time of 1 minute and 03.89 seconds. He
was trailed by Rory Franks of WA, who remained 0.56 seconds away from the champion and reached the podium for silver medal, with a timing of 1 minute and 04.45 seconds. The third spot of the race was obtained by Baggaley, who once again reached the top of
the podium for bronze medal, with a timing of 1 minute and 05.61 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena enjoyed the notable swims of all age groups swimmers, while the championship concluded after the completion of its’ final session.
