Jake Hodgetts clinches Boys 200m freestyle gold medal – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Jake Hodgetts of New South Wales claimed gold medal of 200m freestyle in the 14-15 years old Boys age group, on the third day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The event took place on Monday, September 19, at the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
Hodgetts obtained the title of the event by overpowering the efforts of his fellow swimmers, with a remarkable time of 1 minute and 51.31 seconds. With his astounding effort, he remained only 0.90 seconds slower than the age group mark of 1 minute and 50.41
seconds, set by Alexander Graham of Victoria in 2010.
The second spot of the race was occupied by Max Muggeridge of Queensland, who remained 1.47 seconds slower than the gold medallist and clocked a time of 1 minute and 52.78 seconds for silver medal. Muggeridge was trailed by Hodgetts’s team-member, Jacob
Hansford, as he stayed only 0.93 seconds slower than him and stepped on the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 53.71 seconds.
The fourth place of the freestyle swim was secured by Hansford’s team-mate, Peter Topalidis, who remained 0.29 seconds behind him and submitted a time of 1 minute and 54.00 seconds. With his fourth fastest finish, Topalidis remained 1.26 seconds ahead of
Queensland’s Mitch Phillips, as he ended his swim in fifth place with a timing of 1 minute and 55.26 seconds.
In the meantime, Andrew Walker of Western Australia emerged as the sixth fastest swimmer of the event. Walker concluded his eight-lap freestyle swim with a timing of 1 minute and 56.54 seconds. He was followed by Lachlan Wells and Leon Dong of Victoria,
who completed their swims for the seventh and eighth best spots with timings of 1:56.90 and 1:57.53 minutes, respectively.
Hodgetts expressed happiness over his notable effort in the 200m freestyle discipline, while the arena admired the scintillating effort of all podium finishers. Furthermore, the winners of the respective meet collected their medals and accolades after the
session’s completion.
