Jake Peavy shines as San Diego Padres defeat Chicago White Sox 7-6 – MLB Update
Jake Peavy put in a brilliant pitching performance as the San Diego Padres defeated Chicago White Sox 7-6 at Camelback Ranch in Arizona on March 14.
Peavy provided just three runs on six strikes in his four innings’ work. He pitched 67 throws, 47 for hits, had one walk and two strike-outs.
It wasn’t an ideal start for Peavy that he wished to have in the start of the spring season. After pitching seven throws in the first, second and third inning, Peavy permitted two hitters to attain base in each of the following two innings.
The fourth inning was tricky and created trouble for Peavy, permitting hits to the first three batters of the rivals, limited them with a two-run homer by Mike Baxter. His energy becomes an issue but Peavy fought back and removed the next three hitters of
their line-up.
Peavy stated that after giving the homers, all pitchers made the best throws which became helpful for them. He was excited with his progress overall and with his track.
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was constantly surprised with Peavy's athletic efforts which resulted in a team win.
Speaking to reporters, Guillen said, "I think today he was more aggressive than he was early [in spring training]. He's done everything he had to do to be out on the mound. I'm very happy with where he is right now."
Guillen believed that Peavy is able to change the squad but he was not in favour of breaking the rules, although the opportunity is there. Guillen stated that now they are going to be very cautious and well-aware of his pitching. The team officials will
have to prepare a plan against him.
After winning the game, Peavy expressed his excitement and said, "I threw some early breaking balls that were pretty good; I got some swings and misses. My arm bounced back and I felt pretty good today. It was a good step in the right direction, where we
can keep climbing."
Chris Denorfia made a home-run for the Padres and hit a single shot to Phil Humber in the seventh inning. A.J. Pierzynski and Alexei Ramirez both added two runs and homers for the White Sox. Lastings Milledge also struck a solo home-run against the Padres’
starter Aaron Harang in the third inning.
Harang gave a win to the Padres by pitching four innings and offered just one earned run. It was the best inning from his initial two starts of the spring season, where he permitted seven runs in only five innings.
