Jake Peavy’s return date a headache for the Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox will be cautious with Jake Peavy this season. The player has returned to spring training and is looking to cement his position in the rotation from the very first week. The White Sox player is hoping for a role in April when the regular
season kicks off. The White Sox management on the other hand, wants to rest the player until he’s healthy and ready for the challenge.
The White Sox have a tough situation to deal with. Jake has recently recovered from an injury to his right arm and he wants a swift return to the rotation. The team doesn’t want to risk another follow-up injury from a quick return and can’t afford to let
the player stay off the radar for more than six weeks as competition in the American League Central division is tough.
When the player took the mound recently for a small exhibition during spring training, general manager, Ken Williams was present to see the pitching first hand. When Ken was asked if Peavy could return to the Major League team in six weeks, he seemed sure
that he could.
“The answer to your question is yes,’’ Williams said. “And we’ve been told, just so everyone knows and it’s not a big story, we have been told to expect a blip in his progress. We’ve been told it won’t be a major blip, but it will be a blip. I can see with
his performance, with his strength improving, and some persuasiveness, which he has the ability to do, yeah, I can see (him breaking camp at the end of March). But in my mind right now, I’m hoping we have the luxury to make sure he’s 100 percent in every way,
shape or form, but he’ll tell us that.’’
The problem with Peavy is the nature of his injury. The player sustained a unique injury that resulted in his right lateral muscle being detached. This is very uncommon for pitchers and the White Sox are on unknown territory. Peavy’s return date is still
unannounced and Chicago prefers to be safe rather than sorry.
