Jake Shields: I want to take on Carlos Condit in 2012 – UFC news
Jake Shields, the man who will take on Yoshihiro Akiyama on February 25, 2012 at UFC 144 recently stated before his Japan tour brawl that he has decided to make a huge comeback and eventually take on Carlos Condit, the current interim welterweight champion,
who has been calling him repeatedly.
Jake Shields is considered as one of the most lethal and agile welterweights in Ultimate Fighting Championship who is classified alongside names such as Martin Kampmann, Dan Henderson and others. Unfortunately, the 33-year-old brawler went out of form because
of his father’s sad unexpected demise.
The incident happened just before his skirmish against Jake Ellenberger, a brawl which he eventually lost in just the first round by total knock out. Since then he has not set his foot in the octagon and now wants to forget what happened in the past to start
a new era, the reason why he is eyeballing Carlos Condit in year 2012.
Jake while expressing his feelings said that his past 10 months had been the most distressing and he faced losses not only in his career but also in his personal life in the form of his father’s death. Shields said that he feels far better and is concentrated
at just coming back on the winning track striving hard to beat the best in the division.
The 33-year-old Shields said that he wants to avenge his best friend Nick Diaz’s defeat by the kicks of Carlos since he has beaten Condit once and knows the calibre of the American current interim welterweight champion.
It must be kept in mind that Jake collected a unanimous win over Carlos at Rumble on the Rock 9. Jake commented, “I feel like welterweight is really shook up right now for title contention. It's up for grabs for anyone really. With (Jon) Fitch losing, (Josh)
Koscheck's last fight not being the most spectacular; the title's up for grabs right now. He (Condit) was calling me out last year, so I would love to fight him. He has the belt now. I mean GSP's still the true champ, but if there's time to get a fight in,
I would love to be the guy to go out there and put on a great win and jump in there.”
Jake and Akiyama, both men are coming from two and three defeats respectively. Jake is a star brawler and fights like a champion his losses against GSP and Jake are not simple defeats since it is not easy to take on two of the best men in the division. UFC
144 pay-per-view will be headlined by the main event between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson.
