Jake Shields wants to make a strong comeback – UFC News
Jake Shields was once among the top-notch middleweights of MMA, especially after his victory of Dan Henderson to grab the middleweight title of Strikeforce. Unfortunately, Shields soon made a switch to the UFC, which never worked out for him.
Shields lost to Georges St. Pierre and Jake Ellenberger in UFC when he switched to the light middleweight division. However, he was successful to score a victory against Martin Kampmann and Yoshihiro Akiyama earlier this year. Now, the middleweight wants
to make a strong comeback and once again be on the winning track by switching to the middleweight division once again.
In a recent interview with Heavy.com, Shields spoke about switching from middleweight to light middleweight, calling it a tough choice.
“It was a tough choice because I've had success at both weights,” claimed Shields. “But I just feel a little stronger, a little more explosive, and it's nice not having to stress myself out the last month dieting and cutting weight. I'm just a lot happier
when I can do whatever I want.”
When asked if he is feeling comfortable with the entire scenario of making a comeback to the middleweight division, Shields revealed, “I'm really feeling it out. But I'm hoping to get through this fight and then get a top-contender and get myself back to
that title picture.”
It should be noted here that Shields will have to defeat Herman in order to reach the level of a title contender. Herman stands as a threat to Shields return right now, as he has won his last three bouts in a decisive manner.
“I think he's a really tough fighter. He's got alot of heart, he's got good standup and good ground, so he offers a lot of threat,” marked Shields when asked about Herman.
Shields further spoke of his training, revealing that he does most of his training with his home base at Cesar’s. He added that he indeed travels a bit here and there to find new training partners to get a change in his training regime.
Shields believe his return to the middleweight division will be a happening one and that hopefully he will live up to his promises.
