Jake Tapp secures Men’s 100m backstroke: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Jake Tapp of LOSC secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
Tapp faced strong contest from his fellow swimmer throughout the discipline but with his magnificent pace, he succeeded in securing gold medal of the 100m event.
He remained dominant over his opponents throughout the double lap discipline and made his way to the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 55.75 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained only 0.01 seconds ahead of Jeffrey Swanston of NEW, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by completing his swim in a time of 55.76 seconds.
The second position holder of the race was followed by Matthew Swanston of NEW, who remained 0.22 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and secured bronze medal of the discipline by posting a time of 55.98 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Adam Best of Go Kingfish, who remained 0.42 seconds apart and ended his sprint in a time of 56.40 seconds.
The 20-year-old Best was chased by Omar Mahmoud Arafa of OAK, who stayed 0.01 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 56.41 seconds for fifth position.
Arafa was followed by Russell Wood of CASC, who remained 0.48 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 56.89 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Wood enjoyed an advantage of 0.90 seconds over his following swimmer, Daniel Kuiack of BTSC, who made his way to the finishing blockade for seventh position of the discipline by clocking a time of 57.79 seconds.
Kuiack was traced by Thibault Delecluse of PPO, who stayed marginally slower from his foregoing finisher and ended eighth in the discipline. Delecluse stayed 0.09 seconds apart and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 57.88 seconds for eighth position.
Tapp expressed contentment over his victory in the double lap event and stated that he would continue his struggle to make a significant improvement in his pace and represent his country at the Olympic Games.
