Jake Tapp seizes Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Jake Tapp of LOSC seized gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Saturday, July 21.
Tapp demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the two-lap butterfly discipline and stifled hopes of his opponents, who were eyeing the crown of the discipline.
With his astonishing struggle, Tapp devastated hopes of his rivals as he improved his fourth best qualifying position in the playoff. He continued his relentless efforts in the final round and finished first in the discipline by clocking a time of 54.47
seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Coleman Allen of VAND, who remained only 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and secured silver medal of the event with an effort of 54.49 seconds.
Allen was trailed by Kourosh Ahani of RHAC Predators, who remained 0.15 seconds slower from the silver medallist and ended his swim in third best place by producing a time of 54.64 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Edward Liu of TSC, who was only 0.07 seconds slower from outsmarting his former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 54.71 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by David Dimitrov of LLSC, who suffered a deficit of only 0.05 seconds from his foregoing finisher and ended his race with the timing of 54.76 seconds.
The 20-year-old Dimitrov was chased by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who was 0.44 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall as sixth fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 55.20 seconds.
Following that, the spectators witnessed breath-taking swims of Ivan Cocunubo of CNG and Mohamed Eldah of Crusaders, who involved each other in a neck-to-neck race for seventh position.
The duo failed to escape each other in the final metres of the event and made their way to the finishing blockade for seventh position with a joint finish of 55.24 seconds.
In addition, Tapp was extremely pleased with his performance and articulated his plans of achieving the same at forthcoming swimming events.
