Jake White kick starts ACT Brumbies 2012 Super Rugby preparations
Canberra based Australian conference Super Rugby franchise ACT Brumbies’ newly appointed coach, Jake White, has kick started his side’s 2012 Super Rugby season’s preparations. White, who is the former Springboks World cup winning head coach, was appointed
the head coach of the struggling Brumbies side in April, this year.
Reports are that the White has arrived at Canberra Stadium, on Friday, July 15 after the Brumbies finished 13 on the combined 2011 Super Rugby table. Brumbies won just four of their 16 games in the season and secured just 33 points.
White is expected to announce the training sessions for the Brumbies squad, which should last throughout their off-season. White confirmed that he has been involved with the management of the club with respect to the contract extensions, terminations and
signing of new players.
White has hinted that he will be bringing a new approach to the side. He added that the 2011 season results are irrelevant. He said, “The only thing the players have got to think about is what it felt like not to do well this year.”
When asked about his recruitment drive and some associated deadlines regarding the finalisation of the squad, White replied, “You'd like to think (the squad will be finalized) sooner rather than later, but at this stage I'm happy with where we are at with
the squad.”
Commenting to reporters, White has hinted at some key attributes of his recruitment strategy. He confirmed that he is willing to take on board players who will not be able to renegotiate contracts with their respective clubs. He further added that he also
has some players in his mind to approach.
Furthermore, White has said that he will make the full use of the Australian Rugby Union’s (ARU) recently announced 30-man squad policy.
White said, “It's the first time the ARU has stipulated 30-man squads with five fringe players, it's the first time where players are all on an equal footing - some players are going to get released from other franchises and I don't want to have signed and
sealed the whole squad before we know what's happening in the other squads.”
ACT Brumbies training sessions will be conducted at both Sydney Stadium and Canberra Stadium in tandem.
