Jakob Fuglsang among three more confirmed for Luxembourg team
The Luxembourg pro cycling project of brothers Andy and Frank Schleck has confirmed that Jakob Fuglsang will be among the many riders following the pair in the switch from team
Saxo Bank to the new squad being built. Along with the Danish rider, the team has also confirmed two German cyclists making the switch from team Milram, Linus Gerdemann and Fabian Wegmann.
“I wanted to join this team because I knew it would be a good fit for me and my personal goals,” said Fuglsang. “It is also exciting to start something new and help build it up along with my friends. I
will aim for higher personal goals like going for the general classification at the Giro or Vuelta, while taking great care to help Andy and Frank at the Tour. They are such great athletes, why shouldn’t we try to win it?”
The 25-year-old Fuglsang started his road racing career with a two-year contract at Saxo Bank in 2009, after a short but successful career in mountain-biking. He is a three-time Tour of Denmark winner
and reigning Danish time-trial champion.
“Obviously we have big expectations for Jakob. For me, he is one of the biggest talents in the sport,” said senior sports director Kim Andersen.
28-year-old Gerdemann is a Tour de France stage winner who has taken several stage-race overall victories. His teammate, 30-year-old Wegmann, ia another all-rounder and double winner of the German road
championships.
“I have already worked with Linus earlier in his career and I always wanted to work with him again, so I am pleased to have the chance to get him on this team,” said Andersen. “Fabian
is a rider I have always wanted on my team. I have always liked him; he is a winner - pure and simple.”
The full line-up announcement is expected next week.
