Jakob Fuglsang bags an overall victory at the 2012 Tour de Luxembourg
Jakob Fuglsang was having a dry season but the cyclist has finally found his winning ways during the ongoing Tour De Luxembourg 2012.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during the five-stage race and manages to secure the top overall spot after the final general classifications.
He cited, "The team dedicated themselves to winning, and I really have to thank them all, we had such a strong team here”.
“Working together on all five stages made this possible and I’m so happy it worked out for us.”
"I think the organization made the right decision by ending the GC battle at that point, there was a real risk of crashes and everyone was nervous to stay upright".
"Luxembourg is my second home so to win the national tour of Luxembourg is important to the team but also to me”.
Jurgen Roelandts finished first during the final stage of the race and opened his 2012 winning account.
Ben Swift and Davide Appollonio of Team Sky Procycling, Kristof Goddaert of Team AG2R La Mondiale and Wouter Poels of Team Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling achieved the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Jakob Fuglsang finished the 153.5 kilometre race at the tenth position and improved his overall spot after the final general classifications.
Fuglsang is leading the final general classifications with a total gap of 2 seconds over Wouter Poels of Team Vacansoleil-DCM.
Team RadioShack-Nissan cyclist, Frank Schleck is holding the third positions with Jonathan Hivert of Team Saur-Sojasun and Tom Dumoulin of Team Argos-Shimano holding the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
The 27-year-old started riding professionally with the Danish side, Team Saxo Bank in 2009 and stayed with the team by the end of 2010 season.
He penned a deal with Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and is continuing his second consecutive season with the team.
The cyclist has participated in as many as four Grand Tour races throughout his career including two Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations to his credit.
Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol, Ben Swift of Team Sky Procycling and Jurgen Roelandts are holding the top three positions after the point’s classifications with 40, 34 and 33 UCI points to his credit.
