Jakob Fuglsang finds form after an overall victory at the Tour de Luxembourg
Jakob Fuglsang was recently seen in action at the Tour de Luxembourg with Tour de France as the season’s biggest goal.
The cyclist was suffering from bad health conditions for the first part of the season and missed most of the events.
Fuglsang was due to lead Team RadioShack-Nissan at the first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d’Italia 2012 but was not hundred percent for the three-week race.
The 27-year-old resumes his professional pursuit at the Tour de Luxembourg and dominated the five-day race.
Jakob opened his 2012 account with an overall victory at the Tour De Luxembourg and overcame Wouter Poels of Team Vacansoleil-DCM with a healthy lead of 2 seconds.
Frank Schleck of Team RadioShack-Nissan occupied the third position with Jonathan Hivert of Team Saur-Sojasun and Tom Dumoulin of Team Argos-Shimano holding the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Fuglsang was delighted after the victory and thanked his team mates for their continuous support throughout the event.
He told sporten, tv2.dk, "The whole team has been riding incredibly strong, and we have a really strong team”.
“I don't feel 100 percent yet, because there are so many on the team who have the level to ride the Tour,” he noted while talking about the Tour de France 2012.
“It really depends on what kind of tactics there are many climbers on the team, but they also need someone for the flat. I do not hope that they believe they can ignore me”.
“I would probably initially be disappointed, but it's not the end of the world”..
“There are still good races in July and maybe the Tour of Poland is a better preparation for the Olympics”.
“But I would very like to ride the Tour. No doubt about it.”
The Danish professional cyclist started his professional crusade with Team Saxo Bank in 2009 and stayed with the team by the end of 2010 season.
He accepted an offer from Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and is continuing his second consecutive season with the Luxembourg based team.
Team RadioShack-Nissan has plenty of options for the Tour de France and with the likes of Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck in the panel; it is still not certain whether or not Jakob will be given an opportunity at the Tour de France 2012.
