Jakob Fuglsang in negotiations with Bjarne Riis
Jakob Fuglsang is currently negotiating with Team Saxo Bank as Bjarne Riis has shown interest in hiring the Dane for the 2013 season.
The cyclist was disappointed after he was not picked up by Team RadioShack-Nissan for the Tour de France.
The exclusion of Andy Schleck form the Tour was a good opportunity to have Fuglsang for the French Grand Tour but Johan Bruyneel decided to go without him.
His contract with the Luxembourg team expires by the end of 2012 season and he has already started hunting for a new home for 2013 season.
Jakob confirmed the news to a Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, "My manager has spoken to Bjarne (Riis), It could be something, but there are other offers that look interesting too".
He further added that, “He [Bjarne] has made an offer, and in any case it is a first offer”.
“It can still not work out, so I won't say too much. It has to be the right terms, and I also want to know what Bjarne has in mind for his team”.
“It wouldn't be good if he takes four new captains in, as I would I end up in the same situation as now”.
“That is also a thing to be taken into consideration".
The 27-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Saxo-Bank in 2009 and spent a period of two years with the side.
He penned a two-year deal with Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and helped the team with numerous victories during his stay.
Fuglsang recently won the Danish National Time Trial Championships and also bagged an overall victory at the Tour de Luxembourg 2012.
He holds a total number of four Grand Tour contributions to his credit including, two Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana.
Jakob was expected to captain Team RadioShack-Nissan at the Giro d’Italia but he abandoned the race at the last hour because of a knee injury.
Team RadioShack-Nissan squad for the 2012 Tour de France includes Fabian Cancellara (Swi), Tony Gallopin (Fra), Christopher Horner (USA) and Andreas Klöden (Ger).
Maxime Monfort (Bel), Yaroslav Popovych (Ukr), Frank Schleck (Lux), Jens Voigt (Ger) and Haimar Zubeldia Agirre (Spa) forms the complete Team RadioShack-Nissan line-up for the Tour de France 2012.
