Jakob Fuglsang secured the first overall victory at the Tour of Austria 2012
Jakob Fuglsang of Team RadioShack-Nissan has jumped up to the first overall position at the Tour of Austria after being left out from the Tour de France squad.
The cyclist wins the stage 4 of the race and is now leading the stage 4 classifications with a lead of 1 minute and 14 seconds over Leopold Konig of Team Net App.
Robert Vrecer of Team Vorarlberg, Petr Ignatenko of Team Katusha and Marcel Wyss of Team NetApp occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
"I'm super happy with this win and the overall," said Fuglsang following the 141.3km stage.
"It is certainly defendable and we're going to do everything we can to bring the yellow home. It's cool that the team has the yellow jersey in two different stage races".
The Dane was expected to represent the team at the National Time Trial Championships along with an overall victory at the Tour de Luxembourg.
He also managed to bag the stage 4 of the Tour of Austria and was expected to lead Team RadioShack-Nissan at the Giro d’Italia 2012.
The cyclist was not 100 percent fit for the Giro and was replaced by Frank Schleck at the race.
Fuglsang was disappointed after the Luxembourg team excluded him from the Tour squad.
"I had to go at that point," explained Fuglsang.
"König didn't do too much work; I think he was really tired]".
"But in my mind I knew he could be playing and saving his energy to beat me for the stage, so I was careful. I dropped him on a rolling part with 20km to go".
