Jakob Fuglsang to join Vincenzo Nibali in Team Astana
Jakob Fuglsang is all set to sign a three-year deal with Team Astana as reported by the Danish media earlier.
The cyclist was believed to have received offers from Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank and Team Astana and it appears as if he has decided to stay with Giuseppe Martinelli team.
“I can tell you that Astana and Omega Pharma are the two teams I'm talking to the most,” he told newspaper Jyllands-Posten.
“I would like to go and work with Bjarne again but I have to look at my own role on the team and for me with the investments he's making at the moment it might not be the right choice for me”.
“He's going to have a really strong team with Contador back and other GC riders so it might not be the  best solution for me, so that's why he's not number one on my list right now".
Fuglsang marked his professional debut with Team Saxo Bank in 2009 and spent a period of two-years with the team.
He accepted an offer from Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and was chosen to represent Team RadioShack-Nissan for 2012 season.
The 27-year-old holds as many four Grand Tour appearances under his belt including two Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations to his credit.
Jakob wins the National Time Trial Championships and also occupied the top overall position at the Tour de Luxembourg and the Tour of Astana.
He also managed to secure the fourth stage of the Tour of Astana after missing most of the World Tour races of the year.
Team Astana has also signed the 2012 Tour de France podium finisher Vincenzo Nibali who will lead the side at the Giro d’Italia 2013.
On the other hand, Fuglsang is expected to see in the leadership role at the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana for the season ahead.
Team Astana is now looking ahead at the coming Grand Tour race, Vuelta a Espana 2012 under the leadership of Fredrik Kessiakoff.
He will be accompanied by Assan Bazayev, Alexsandr Dyachenko, Enrico Gasparotto, Andrey Kashechkin, Kevin Seeldrayers, Egor Silin, Paolo Tiralongo and Andrey Zeits.
