Jakob Fuglsang will lead RadioShack-Nissan Trek in Giro d' Italia 2012 – Cycling News
Leopard Trek rider Jakob Fuglsang has confirmed that he will be joining the new team RadioShack-Nissan-Trek for the coming season. He joined the team Leopard Trek in 2011 after leaving his first professional team Saxo Bank as he stayed with them from 2009-10.
He was amongst the few riders whose name was not confirmed for the new team after the announcement of the merger. The news has now been confirmed by his manager that Johan Bruyneel has agreed to keep him in the team for the coming season. Moreover, he will
also be leading the team in the Giro d’ Italia and will have a chance at the podium position.
The 26-year-old was disappointed when he realised that his name was not on the new team’s roaster but was also hopeful that he will make it to the final team list. He told Ekstrabladet.dk earlier this week, “I'm pretty sure that I'll have a team to ride
for next season. It's just a question of which team. I'm still not sure that I have a place on the new team and so I'm not closing my eyes to other possibilities. My manager has talked to interested teams that have approached him.”
Fuglsang finished the Vuelta a Espana 2011 at the 26th position and also won stage 1, Team’s Time Trials at the grand event. He was fourth overall at the Tour de Suisse, Amstel Gold Race and won stage 3 of Danmark Rundt. Jakob was riding at the
UCI World Road Race Championships 2011 as he finished the 266 kilometre Elite Men road race at the 26th position.
The Dane is currently at the 29th position in the UCI World Tour individual rankings as of September 2011 since he has secured 136 points in the current season. Moreno Nicoletti is Jakob’s agent and he has confirmed that the cyclist will ride
for the new team in the coming season. His inclusion in the Tour de France 2012 has not yet been confirmed as of now since his full riding schedule will be decided by the end of this year. Fuglsang will be leading the team RadioShack-Nissan-Trek in the Giro
d’ Italia which will be the first Giro of his career.
