Despite the rumours that he would leave, Borussia Dortmund winger, Jakub Blaszczykowski, has extended his stay at the club and will be playing at the Signal Iduna Park next season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 international has put pen-to-paper on a new contract that will ensure his stay at the club until the summer of 2018. The winger signed a contract last summer which would have ended in the summer of
2016.
Borussia Dortmund had a mixed season, as they ended second on the Bundesliga standings table, behind Bayern Munich. The club also lost in the final of the UEFA Champions League to Bayern last month and ended
the campaign trophyless.
The Borussians have already lost star player, Mario Gotze, who has joined the Bavarian giants and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255 is set to follow. The club has since looked to secure the future of some of its key players.
Dortmund’s sporting director, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Zorc, claimed that Blaszczykowski is one of the club’s most important players and it was vital to ensure his stay at the club. The chief added that there had been a lot of
interest for the player in the past few months but Dortmund is not willing to sell its prized asset.
“With his character and quality on the pitch, Kuba is an important asset for our team. He has made quite a splash around Europe last season. We are happy that we can plan with him on a long-term basis for the
future,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Blaszczykowski expressed his delight on signing the new deal. He admitted that he had no plans to leave and is ecstatic to continue for a club of the stature of Dortmund.
“By now, Dortmund is like a second home to me. When my contract expires, I'll be able to look back on 10 years at BVB. I'm very, very proud that a top-class side like Borussia Dortmund have so much trust in me,”
the player concluded.
