Jalaa likely to go to Ascot after claiming a terrific victory in the Smooth Radio Oadby Maiden Stakes
The Richard Hannon trained, Jalaa, demonstrated his true potential as he claimed a victory in his debut race at Leicester on 5th June, 2012.
The young runner was paired with jockey Paul Hanagan, and together they blazed through the six furlong track that was labelled good to soft.
The son of Street Cry, out of mare Daneleta, entered the Smooth Radio Oadby Maiden Stakes with a winning shot of 2-1, and sealed the victory when he took control in the final stages of the race.
The two-year-old broke through the wire first, 2 ½ lengths ahead of Carlton Blue, whereas Stamford finished in third place half-length after the runner-up.
With this victory, the Hamdan Al Maktoum owned bay colt has shown that he is ready for a tougher challenge, and that is why Jalaa will compete in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot on 19 June, 2012.
Based on this recent victory, Coral will be sending the colt to Royal Ascot with a 14-1 chance.
Richard Hannon junior, the trainer’s son was pleased with the way the runner performed, especially since the ground was a cause for concern. He discussed the plan of action for the runner as he stated:
"He'll improve a lot for it and he's a Coventry horse, I think. He's a real nice horse we can look forward to. This track will have taught him a lot. I really like the way he did it and it looks like he could have the temperament to go to the top."
At Leicester, trainer Richard Fahey’s runners came out on top, as they brought the best they had to the track, which earned the renowned trainer two magnificent victories.
Mary’s Daughter, daughter of Royal Applause, out of mare Aunty Mary, pleasantly surprised her connections, as she emerged triumphant from the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Fillies' Stakes, where she finished 2 ¾ lengths
ahead of, Flirtinaskirt.
Lady Loch, owned by David W. Armstrong, notched the first victory of her career as she stole the race by defeating, Ruby Night by 1 length in the Diamond Jubilee Handicap.
