Jamaica's Entertainment products: what would you love to see?

Entertainment in Jamaica serves various purposes. There are events for tourists, events for locals and events for 'everybody'. Surprising there are very few entertainment venues, and even fewer entertainment 'districts'. In fact there are perhaps NO formal (legislated) entertainment districts in Jamaica.

THE QUESTION: If you were appointed to the post of Prime Minister of Jamaica for a year, how would you want the live/club entertainment products to be developed in Jamaica? What specific elements of variety would you want to see and how would you want them to be built & located?

You can state whether you are a tourist or jamaican (or both!). Also name your top 3 favourite Jamaican Entertainers (so we can see where your passion is).

  1. More exotic dance clubs with hotter girls..LOL.

    I'm a Jamaican.

  2. I think that they would almost have to be built in New Kingston, location is everything and besides its in the heart of town. I would also build more family based attractions.

This is not really part of what you asked but, I would want more hotels in Town that offer babysitting services. The lack of that deters a lot of people from frequenting the area with children. Most people that come to Kingston are Jamaican that have migrated and are visiting or people there on business.

Once we have more "family" friendly affordable hotels in Town then more people will want to visit.

I would completely remodel Hope Zoo and get "real" animals there, convert Cuddies to more of an adult geared restaurant/bar/gaming center..(like Dave and Busters) basically offer miniature golf, arcade games etc...

I would maybe build something like Cool Runnings water park in the Strawberry Hills area.

Build a BIG playhouse for Jamaican plays where cinema two was in New Kingston. It would consist of balcony seating, and lower level seating, and lastly ground level for less expensive tickets.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I am Jamaican and a migrant that frequents the island 6 months outta the year.

    Favorite entertainers:

    Laverne Archer from Passa Passa

    Oliver Samuels

and Paul Campbell (had the best line in a Jamaican movie ever) "Walk and live, Talk and bumbaclawt dead"
