In the Caribbean. What are Jamaicans' views of the "smaller" islands that make up the Caribbean. Are you interested in the other islands or is there a big pull towards the U.S or U.K?

  1. Sure, the other islands seem interesting. I've never been to any of them, but I know people that come from islands like Cayman and St. Kitts and Nevis, and they're great. They remind me alot like Jamaicans, especially people from Cayman. And for some reason I'm interested in those islands where French is spoken - like St. Maarten or Guadeloupe.

  2. I love the other Caribbean islands.  A big big difference  compared to the U.S. or U.K. apples and Oranges....

Each island has its unique individuality:

St. Lucia has the most beautiful gardens and a French flavor.

The Cayman Islands ..tranquill, relaxing clearest water and wonderful fishing.

Greneda is the Isle of Spice..Land at night and you can smell the nutmeg in the air..One of my favorite.

Trinidad and Tobago...Roti and the music..the party island..best Carnival in the Caribbean.

St. Maarten and St. Martin/ Dutch and the French side....French side beautiful, lovely to visit..Dutch side shopping, casinos and tourist.

Some others I passed by on the cruise and you cannot really know an island cruising through.

  3. yes i'm from jamaica and i've been to cayman island before, its a nice island, but i guess i would want to go to the bahamas jus to see wat it looks like in person and some other islands like puerto rico but i wud have to touch up on my spanish of course

  4. Jamaican people like going to these other islands, but mainly for employment. I have friends who have worked in St. Kitts, Curacao, The Bahamas, Cayman and Grenada.

Many of these places do not have as rich a culture as Jamaica does and not the same things are valued by their nationals that are valued by Jamaicans.

Funny Enough, the men of these islands like to marry Jamaican women.

I think many people would prefer the US or UK as they find that more varied opportunities exist in these larger, more established nations but Jamaicans still go to these places.

  5. If it's for a fast economical gain we head to the U.S. and the U.K. as our earnings are taken, or sent back home to enhance the home, family business, community facilities, the economy.

If it's for cultural exchange, entertainment, small business partnerships, wife and husband hunting, the smaller islands are the preferred choice. Our musicians first overseas tour is usually to the Caribbean islands, once you're appreciated in the Caribbean, you will be on the lips of the world.
