Jamaica...only if you have been there...?

Okay, my husband wants to plan a trip to Jamaica. He and a friend are looking at Sandals in Montego Bay. I want to know, honestly how safe it it. Where can you compare it to? Also, I want to ask the big question!! Is it really cool to smoke?? What' s the protocol?

The resort is safe, people staying on the compound are given wrist bands that identify them as residents of that specific resort. the resort also will consist of any activities and entertainment that will require group participation.

The smoking here in Jamaica is ILLEGAL, the same as it is in the US. I think that it is highly unlikely that you will be offered a "spliff" on the resort compound as the workers there could lose their jobs. The possibility exists that you may be offered one by the locals outside of the resort, I personally would not just take a draw from someone I don't know but, to each his own.

The safety in Jamaica at the resort is good because again you are on a resort, there is no real danger that could follow you , as the majority of the patrons of the resort are tourists as you are.

I've been to Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Kingston, Jamaica.  I had no problems there.  I enjoyed myself.  There were lots of people there offering me what they call a "SPIFF".

Having been to Jamaica 6 times I would say it is very safe. I've stayed in MoBay, Ochi, Negril and Falmouth (3x's).  My daughter (who was 10 at the time) even ventured off by ourselves without dad and never did we feel unsafe. As with any where you go whether domestic or international always pay attention to your surroundings. I will not say there is no crime in JA, yes there is but being in the tourist areas especially in MoBay where you will be near the hip strip, you will have no problems.

Now with smoke, it is illegal to smoke in Jamaica. Many do, and you will smell it while there. You will be offered to buy it. If you don't want to just say no, that's all that is needed. Now if you are going to partake I suggest you don't do it in the open. You can smoke on your balcony or find a secluded place on the resort.

I've been to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Its safe in Montego bay. You might think its not safe b/c of the drug dealers selling marijuana, but they're friendly lol. They will offer you it, but a simply no thanks will let them know you don;t smoke it.

i stayed at riu ocho rios and the vendors sell it on the beach. Very friendly. Marijuanna is illegal to smoke in jamaica except in 9 mile where its legal. If you smoke it outside your room balcony its fine. Back when i was at jamaica there were some people who smoked it on the beach nd there wasn't a sign where it said its frowned appon.

Is it really cool to smoke? no. i use to smoke it, its a relaxing experience. I rather like being high than being drunk.
