Jamaica vacation?????

Question

I want to go to Jamaica with my wife and two 13 year old kids this summer. where is the best place to go, what is it like there, what is there to do? I also wanted to try scuba diving? How long is the flight from NY. Where can I find it the cheapest? where should i stay. if you have anymore info please mention it.

JFK to MBJ (montego bay) will take you 4 hours non-stop.  american airlines for good deals.

If you are looking to spend your days on a beach then Negril would suit. www.negril-treehouse.com  A bit further south is Treasure Beach for 'off the beaten track' and less touristy.  If you want a good mix of fun, activitiy, beaches and tours - Ocho Rios would be a good spot.  Montego Bay closer to the airport so less transfer time and has a 'busy' feel.  

A reasonably priced all-inclusive family resort is FDR - www.fdrholidays.com - for something a little more independent a villa in Ocho Rios - www.mammee-bay.com - Silver Sands along the north coast is ideal if you just want a beach and to get away from it all www.silver-sands.com

holiday inn sunspree in montego bay (all inclusive resort)is your best bet for a budget friendly (if the kids can pass for 12 they stay free) its about 31/2 hrs to fly from n.y. but flying out of Newark is cheaper! and the resort is only 10 mins from the airport .anything you want to do (scuba,etc) arrange once you're there you can negotiate prices that way!  go to the holiday inn website and the air Jamaica website for the best deals! have fun

~ Sandals Resort Negril ~

Very beautiful resort ! A pool, beautiful white sand, beautiful white water, beautiful sunset and lots of activities to do. You can even get a personal chaperon to watch your kids for a little while so you and your wife can spend time with each other. The flight is about 3 1/2 hours. There is everything to do there. Just say the word and they got it. So go and enjoy yourself ! By the way fly with Air Jamaica ! American Airlines dosen't serve food on there airline , you have to buy food from them which is expensive if you don't have the money. So fly with Air Jamaica !

i'm not sure if you've checked out Beaches Resort. i have been to the one in Turks & Caicos and that one was phenominal. we went with my grandparents aunts uncles and  i have cousins and brothers that range from age 1 to 19 and everyone had a blast. they had something for literally everyone and everyone was soo nice. it is an all inclusive resort as well, including tips. definitely check it out. they have a location in Jamaica too! i've never been there, but if you want to go to Jamaica that may be the place for you. if youre looking to go out of Jamaica, Turks & Caicos was perfect. we loved it so much that we're going back this year! it is not loud and noisy as you may think lol and sesame street characters do not run around the place, they are in their own environment that is set to entertain kids. there is a lot of sophisticated areas in the resort too. the one in jamaica has golf too! which turks & caicos does not. good luck! :)

ps. people say the price is a little much, but all in all...it is just a little more than other resorts and you are getting so much more out of the deal. an all inclusive is so wonderful, and ive been to many resorts and this one was my favorite

i would say mentego bay. stay in smaller cities, big cities in jamaica have a lot of crime. althought montego bay is a big city. also, dont take a taxi, i heard they're not even licensed!

Negril is my favorite spot.

My parents took my brother and I on vacation to Jamaica 3x when I was younger.  It was awesome!!!!  Before that, we always vacationed in Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, Bahamas.....once we went to Jamaica, we never looked back.

As an adult, my husband and I honeymooned in Negril for 10 days.  My 4th trip to Jamaica only made me realize even more how much I truly love it there :-)

The people, the beaches, the music, the food.....all amazing.

It depends on what you like to do.  Ochio Rios, Negril, Montego Bay are all good areas for doing really touristissy things, they have lots of resorts.  if you want to submerge yourself into the culture less popular parishes would be a better choice.  If you like the hus and bustle of the city then Kingston is great.  Nice hotels in Kingston are Hilton, Pegasus and there are many smaller hotels that are fantastic as well and much cheaper, courtleigh, altamont court etc.
