Jamaica versus U.S.A – Gold Cup: Second half review (Part 1)
U.S.A and Jamaica started off the second half of their Gold Cup quarterfinal at the RFK stadium with the same teams that ended the first half as neither of the managers opted to conduct any substitutes at the half time break. U.S.A
started off the second half in the same way that they ended the first half as they pressed up field to look for an opening goal. In the 49th minute, U.S.A surged forward in attack and finally broke the Jamaican resistance as Jermain Jones netted
their first goal of the match.
Jamaica headed the ball away but it fell straight to the young midfielder who volleyed the ball home from 20 yards out. It was a spectacular effort which took a deflection on its way towards the goal. In the 56th minute,

With their spot in the Gold Cup at risk, Jamaican threw caution to the wind as they changed their formation to a 4-4-2. However U.S.A’s midfield dominance continued to their three man central midfield. This created a lot of trouble
for Jamaica which meant that they were denied time and space on the ball in the final third of the field near the United States’ penalty area. In the 61st minute, U.S.A spurned another glorious chance to add to their advantage when Cherundolo crossed
the ball for Clint Dempsey.
The Fulham midfielder rose above his marker to head the ball towards the Jamaican goalkeeper Ricketts. However, the L.A Galaxy shot stopper produced a reflex save to tip the ball away as the score line remained at one nil. In the
64th minute, Jamaica looked to change the momentum of the match when their manager threw Jevaughn Watson into the fray. Watson replaced Eric Vernan in the midfield area.
U.S.A responded with a change of their own in the 65th minute when Coach Bob Bradley introduced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alejandro-Bedoya-c4390 made way for his compatriot. Donovan took up an offensive midfielder’s
position after replacing Bedoya as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 went for the killer punch following their bright start to the second half. Jamaica on the other hand found it hard to play their way back into the match. Their two man midfield found it difficult to compete
against the three man United States’ central midfield.
