Jamaican Bolt’s ability to handle heavy ground a major factor in Bet On Your Mobile With Coral Stakes (Handicap) at York
Jamaican Bolt is not one of the consistent winners, and looks no big thing against a start-studded line-up in Saturday’s Bet On Your Mobile With Coral Stakes (Handicap) at York. The 4-year-old is surely facing a lot tougher opposition than his latest hard-earned
victory at Ayr.
Nevertheless, the Geoffrey Oldroyd-trained cannot be ruled out of the equation. His marvellous ability to handle testing conditions will certainly prove a major factor at York, where the going is heavy.
The son of Pivotal registered his second win of the season last time. On Ayr’s heavy five furlongs, he was in the centre group in the beginning. The soft surface did not allow him to establish dominance in the middle stages, but in the hands of Robert Winston,
he managed things quite wisely to lead inside the final furlong.
After getting his head in front, the talented runner made no mistake whatsoever, and kept on strongly to notch up the first place by 1¾ lengths in the Huntswood Handicap.
Steps is another, who usually performs well on a testing surface. So, he should be on the shortlist. The 4-year-old has not yet done justice to his talent though.
Roger Varian’s charge sealed an excellent win at Newmarket in July, but failed to perpetuate the fine work. He is returning to York after facing a few unlucky defeats respectively at Doncaster and Haydock.
Kyleakin Lass, Pearl Blue and Ancient Cross, all are good runners, and have roles to play today. In the meanwhile, Verinco is a possible outsider back from a long break.
Including the abovementioned names, twenty horses have entered the class 3 meeting. They will pursue a handsome winning prize of £8,410. The officials are due to kick off the affair at 14:05 GMT.
Without a shadow of doubt, there are many to consider. But Steps and Jamaican Bolt’s ability to maintain the standards even in testing conditions makes them the most appealing contestants. The latter is in fairly better form, and should be preferred. A flawless
act will be required to thrive though. We wish the best of luck to all the participants.
