This question is not ment to be taken too serious. I just wondering

But can Ja'cans "spot" someone from abroad without them saying a word?

I am not talking about actual tourist I mean someone who has lived abroad for a while.

I had people just of the blue, say to me things like "you smell like farin" lol thats just from me standing there LOL

I find it funny, but how do they know?

Have you happen to you?

  1. It happens all to often. When I go back a yard, if a nah wid my fren dem, the people at restaurants an ting look pan me like me a tourist. but the taxi man dem nah pick me up cause meh look to local.

smaddy tell me say , when you come back from babylon you always look xtra shiny, and talk proper. lol

I guess smellin like farrin is kinda equal to the familiar smell of home once you step off the plane.

  2. Honestly i really wish i could tell u! lol im a jamaican and for some reason u are rite but i dont kno how really! its just a look that you may have in terms of for some people what you wear may seem different and by the simplest things like way you stand/sit or present yourself. especially when you coming from somewhere that was really cold! in terms of smell i can actually confirm that ""farrin" clothes smell diff perhaps it the detergent and/or the water? i can actually separate my clothes from my sisters clothes from trinidad, my brothers clothes from USA and my other brother from canada even when theyre wearing it! its weird but so tru! i never thought of this before but good question! made me laugh (at myself cause ive done it before) and think (though i couldnt come up with a precise reason)!

  3. Definitely.

  4. always. For some reason it happens every time i go back.

  5. This is a thing of the past. I cannot speak for other parishes but I know for Kingston, Montego bay and Mandeville,  the only way to know people from "Farrin" is generally by the accent. I am originally from Mandeville, Manchester and people there dress hot. Whether "farinnas" know this or not, when they come to these parishes "they blend in". Jamaicans got their hair and nails done too (sometimes even better than overseas). They dress in the lastest and hottest clothes too. Not even skin tone can really tell anymore because some "a di gal dem out there a bleach like h**l".

I am really happy that my people can still look great even a yard because a lot of "farrina" used to come and show off. The same clothes, shoes, perfume, bags and hairstyle deh a Jamaica baby!

  6. Yes, its, an attitude, body language, manner of dressing. It's in expectations, its in life, its in cars, its in clothes, shoes, its in shopping, its in working and earning money, etc...(IE. you can work here for as little as $9.00per hour USD and be broke as h**l, but in JA at that rate of pay in USD they would be puzzled as to why you can barely make ends meets, cause by Jamaican standards ah hole heap ov money dat. Same job way different pay rate)

I was in Cricklywood in Kingston , some years back and I see this guy just standing by a tree talking on his cell phone. He was dressed in a white tee, with some white white sneakers, blue jeans, and a big A** chain around his neck....He stood out like a sore thumb, he looked like a white person in an ALL black neighborhood, very noticeable. Turns out the guy was a recent deportee, and he still had the "western mentality" fast forward some years later, he is very much Jamaican.

  7. LMAO ! whey yo Yardies have this too !

In Trini we could spot them with they new clothes and new shoes. Yes man when dey come back home so dey have to pose up on de locals. To show that they doing soooo good up in "farrin" lol

  8. Evertime, de person who juss come from inglan, still dressup inna dis wole heap ah clothes, dem still feel chilly, plus dis big han bag. an love collek de brown coin dem an ah wandah how much dem wort.

If den juss come from merica, wole heap ah make up, like wen light gone an all de icecream dem melt in ah one anadah, plus de tights, sock an sneakers, wear wid everting.

Mi ongli notice de ladies dem.

  9. me know di hinglan pensioner them cause part a dem eva get big... either them have bosun or dem nose swell up or something

TRANSLATE: - Yes, I can tell when someone has lived in the UK for a while, as they usually have an enlarged body part which may be an inguinal hernia, a swollen nose or any such thing.
