Jamal Crawford and the free agency options – NBA Feature
Jamal Crawford, the Atlanta Hawks guard is a free agent this off season. The 31 year old veteran holds a terrific record during his 11 seasons pro-career and it is expected that the 6-foot-5 in swingman will draw a lot of attention
in the upcoming free agency.
Just like all free agency windows, there is a lot of buzz going on in the league this time as well. However this season, the time slot for landing the agents in very short the teams would have to take their decisions as soon as
they can. The fact that there are a very few high profile options available does help the situation much as well.
However for Crawford, the situation is ideal to get a big deal. However, only a big salary shouldn't be the sole aim, because now is a good time for him to find a deal with a real title contender.
It seems that Crawford also wants to join a title contender and has changed his agent for reportedly the same reasons. There are already several rumours swirling in the league regarding Crawford's next move. However, we will consider
teams which really need him and also have enough resources to offer him a deal.
Los Angeles Lakers should be Crawford's first choice, as they do need fire power in their back court. Although the Lakers already have the services of All-Star Kobe Bryant, who is the top guard in the business, but with the addition
of Crawford in the Lakers line-up, Bryant would be able to take a breather every now and then and will also the franchise the services of a brilliant shooter.
Jamal won the Sixth Man of the Year award back in 2010, which certifies that he is a great player off the bench and L.A. wouldn't miss an athlete like him.
The other option for Crawford could be the New Jersey Nets. The Nets also require a solid player like Crawford, who could bring stability in their performance. Moreover, in order to keep their star point guard Deron Williams the
franchise needs to build a strong group of supporting players around him. Otherwise, there is a possibility that Williams may move to a better roster. With the kind of stats Crawford possesses (15.4 points and 3.9 assists per game) he seems a perfect candidate
to fill in the spot in the Nets line-up.
Last, but certainly not the least, Crawford had played a very important role in the success of the Atlanta Hawks and the franchise also recognizes this fact. Therefore, it wouldn't be a surprise for the Hawks' fans to see Crawford
playing for Atlanta again next season.
Whether he goes or stays at Atlanta, this only time would tell.
