Jamari Rose topples Gonzalo Duany in pre quarter-finals of Pan Am Junior Championships
Jamaica’s Jamari Rose overpowered Gonzalo Duany in pre quarter-finals to surge into quarter-finals of the Under-19 Boy’s Singles category in XXI Pan Am Junior Championships on July 25, 2012.
This epic 41-minute match was played at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada and both contenders kept the audience intact with their breath-taking performance in three exhausting sets.
The victorious campaigner exhibited commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour despite going down in the first set of the match. He ended this battle with favourable result of 15-21, 21-17 and 21-12.
On the other hand, the Peru shuttler failed to continue with top form and squandered his initial lead by losing the ending two games.
Gonzalo Duany looked in prime touch during first set as he enthralled his opponent with four consecutive points in the beginning and then doubled the impact by registering 8-4 total.
He carried this rhythm all the way to half time and placed a mountainous figure of 11-6 before the announcement of break.
After one-minute interval, Gonzalo gathered valuable points at steady pace and reached at indomitable position of 20-8.
This huge difference of twelve points broke the back of Jamaican campaigner who gave up the futile chase after reading 15-21 score on the board.
Jamari Rose remained under influence of his rival in the beginning of second set but then he switched on the best he had and managed to pocket a crucial match point.
In first half, he could not read his challenger’s game and remained confused until 11-10 but couple of fruitful rallies after mid-game break boosted his confidence.
At first, he caught the opposing shuttler at 14-14 and then left him far behind with four successive points. Jamari managed to avoid a straight-set defeat with a convincing figure of 21-17.
The decider became consequential as both contenders were hanging by a thread to stay alive. However, the Jamaican campaigner completely outclassed his competitor in all areas of the game.
He started the ball rolling with nine productive rallies in the beginning and maintained this advantage all the way to final result of 21-12.
Now he will lock horns with Andrew D`Souza of Canada and win will take him into semi-finals of the event.
