Jameer Nelson busy organizing work outs with his Orlando Magic teammates during NBA Lockout
With the NBA Lockout now in its third month, the Orlando Magic players are planning to start working out together next week to keep themselves in shape and prepare for the next season, if there is one.
Restricted by the league to practice in the team’s facility at Amway Centre as a part of the work stoppage, the Magic players have decided to take the responsibility upon themselves. Most of the players from the team will gather
in Central Florida next week for informal drills which will involve conditioning workouts, weightlifting sessions and basketball competition.
While talking to the Orlando Sentinel, the starting point guard of Orlando, Jameer Nelson threw some light on his forthcoming plans to organize some drills with his teammates.
"I just want guys to get together a few days a week just to get back in the flow of things as much as we can and get some weightlifting in and some conditioning and get some shots up," This is the time we all come back into town
and just get together and get around each other and hang out a little bit.”
Nelson did not disclose the place where Orlando Magic players will be arranging their work out sessions. However, one thing was revealed that Jameer Nelson, the big man Dwight Howard and Quentin Richardson are busy making arrangements
for an athletic trainer and some space at the gym to replicate their standard training camps in the Amway Centre as closely as possible.
The veteran point guard further stated that the idea of coming together is not only just about having drills every day. It will give an opportunity to the players to hang out a little and to be around each other.
“Whether it's dinner or going to watch a couple of football games, and work out during the day. It doesn't have to be an everyday thing because we have a veteran team. Guys still do their own thing working on their bodies individually,
and to my understanding, most guys are [working on their own] right now." Nelson said.
Orlando Magic pre-training camp is scheduled to start on 4th October. However, it will only take place if the NBA owners and players’ association makes a settlement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement to remove
the lockout.
Taking into consideration the current scenario, both the parties are far away from making a settlement at the moment, which puts the future of NBA in a situation full of uncertainty. Tuesday’s Labour meeting turned out to be another
failure, showing no progress at all towards the betterment and no further schedule was given for the next negotiation.
