Jameer Nelson could suit up for Orlando Magic
According to
The Orlando Sentinel,
injured point guard Jameer Nelson might suit up when the Orlando Magic host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, 10 November at the Amway Center.
Nelson, who sprained his ankle on 5 November and has missed the team’s last two games, practiced on Tuesday, 9 November, and even participated in the four-on-four and five-on-five drills
with his team-mates.
According to the 28-year-old guard, who is averaging 12.5 points per game, his ankle is not yet fully healed, but he doesn’t want to be a spectator again. He feels that he can already play,
although he admitted that he’s still a bit bothered by the injury.
“My plan was just to do as much as I could,” said Nelson after their practice. “I guess I deal with pain better than some guys, but I didn't feel any pain today. It was a little weak or whatever,
and that's to be expected, because I sat off of it for a few days.”
Without Nelson, backup point guards Chris Duhon and Jason Williams took over, and did a great job in orchestrating their offense, leading the Magic to a 91-88 win over the Bobcats on 6 November,
which was followed by a hard-earned 93-89 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, 8 November.
However, the match-up on Wednesday, 10 November will be a lot tougher for them since they are going up against a resilient Jazz team, who surprised the Miami Heat with a 116-114 overtime
victory on Tuesday, 9 November. The team is led by an all-star point guard, Deron Williams, but Nelson said that the idea of facing Williams will not be a factor affecting whether he’ll play or not.
“I've got a smile on my face,” said Nelson, when asked if he is anticipating a showdown with Williams, who averaged 25 points and 13.5 assists against Orlando last season. “I'm going to be
smart about it, just still play it day by day, and if I'm able to play tomorrow, I'm able to play. If I'm not, I'm not.”
