James Allen of SMG Europe delighted to have UK Championship at York Barbican Centre
After getting a positive feedback from the snooker fans in the City of York in the previous snooker season, the snooker governing body, World Snooker decided to organise the UK Championship at the York Barbican Centre for the next two years. The 2011 UK
Championship was a successful event in the City of York last season as it was warmly welcomed by the city’s snooker fans.
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn was the one who brought the UL Championship back to the York Barbican Centre after five years of absence. Before York, the event was organised at Telford International Centre from 2007 to 2010. However, due to the increasing
interest and love of York towards the event, the association decided to take it back to the city.
Speaking to the media, Hearn said, “The UK Championship will be staged at the York Barbican for the next two years. There is a huge amount of enthusiasm for snooker in York and the surrounding area and the top players love the Barbican. We're delighted to
sign this deal for the next two years and looking forward to December.”
This year, at the end of the 2011-12 Snooker Season, the chief along with the organisation made the decision to extend the contract of the event for the next two seasons. The management team of the York Barbican Centre, SMG Europe, who organises different
events at the venue, is very excited to have this opportunity to arrange the tournament for two more seasons.
While speaking to World Snooker, James Allen of SMG Europe, said, “We're delighted the UK Championship is returning to the York Barbican following last December's successful homecoming. After an absence of five years from the city, the support shown by the
people of York has been nothing short of exceptional, as witnessed by last year's recording breaking ticket sales.”
The tickets for the next UK Championship are available on the World Snooker website. The event will begin from December 1, 2012 at the decided venue and will feature the likes of defending champion Judd Trump, the 2012 World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan,
John Higgins and Mark Selby.
