James Allison: Lotus have not shown true potential yet – Formula 1 news
James Allison, the technical director of Lotus has declared that the team is looking forward for the normal race conditions to show its true potential in 2012 F1 championship.
Lotus have been able to secure 16 points in the 2012 championship so far, with the remarkable performances of its driver Kimi Raikkonen who finished seventh and fifth in the first two Grands Prix of the season held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia
and Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia.
Moreover, Raikkonen’s teammate, Romain Grosjean had not been able to show his charisma in the races after his some of his impressive performances during the qualifying.
“What we'd give for a 'normal' race,” Allison told the team's website. “Starting without grid penalties for gearbox issues, without wet conditions for two drivers who have never sampled the Pirelli wet tyres, and so on. The big positive we can take from
today is that our pace and degradation on the slick tyres at the end of the race was very encouraging. Give us a clean race with good getaways from the right qualifying positions and we should be able to collect a good reward.”
Lotus have been deemed as one of the quite competent teams for the championship. Furthermore, the team principal, Eric Boullier has also claimed that they should not be considered as second class team as they have the potential to fight with the top teams.
Moreover, Allison has expressed that they have a lot of time to make the necessary preparations and essential improvements to enhance the pace of the car before the next race at China. He added that all the other teams would definitely be making the best
of the efforts for the races ahead and they could only achieve a competitive edge if they managed to bring something new in developments.
Besides, he said that that they were focusing on making the crucial advancements for the races ahead.
In addition, he said that sustainable developmental programme would surely prove out the biggest decider of the championship title for all the contenders.
“This year more than ever, mounting a sustained development programme will be the key to success,” said Allison.
