James Allison: Upcoming races in Monaco and Spain to suit Renault cars – Formula 1 news
Renault technical director James Allison has hoped that their cars will perform better in the next two Formula 1 races in the month of May 2011 in Monaco and Spain.
James added that both Monaco and Spain are more favourable to the Renault team and some more upgrades will make the cars more competitive.
So far having somewhat better race results, James still thinks that more upgrades will be required in the car to compete against the bigger teams.
He said, “Monaco will certainly suit our car as it has done in previous years. Spain I think will be much like Turkey, albeit we do have some further improvements to bring to the car before then.”
He further added that Renault’s effort in the next two rounds will be to keep pushing in terms of upgrades so that the team gets some edge over the top running teams.
Renault drivers Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov have so far done a fabulous job to keep the hopes of the fans alive. In the latest encounter in the Turkish Grand Prix, both drivers landed in the top ten positions and picked up valuable points for the team.
Nick finished seventh and Petrov managed an eighth position in the Turkish GP. Along with the point scoring finishes, Renault managed to have a trouble free weekend in Istanbul.
Talking about the recent performance of the team, James said, “So far this season we’ve managed to maintain or actually close up on the gap to pole position, and also the gap to McLaren and Ferrari. Mercedes did rather better in Turkey. The top six is certainly
not outside the bounds of possibility, far from it.”
After four races of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, Renault have managed two podium positions and five point scoring finishes. They are placed fourth in the constructors table behind the struggling Ferrari and ahead of Mercedes.
The season continues with back-to-back races in Spain and Monaco in the month of May and Renault will try their best to maximise their lead over Mercedes.
