James Allison aims to find pace improvement in 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
James Allison, the technical director of Lotus has expressed that the developments they have made upgrades in E20 for Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012, will hopefully improve its pace by “two
tenths of a second.”
Lotus could not make the necessary developments in their car during the preceding season as they faced difficulties in building the understanding of their car.
However, they have been quite competitive in this season so far as they are currently at fifth position in the constructors’ championship with 16 points.
Moreover, Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen who even after the struggling qualifying, secured seventh and fifth place finish in the first two races has also said that their car is well capable of coming at the front.
After the opening two races held at Albert Park in Melbourne and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, every contender is making the best of the efforts to make essential preparations and the necessary improvements in their cars’ pace for the third race.
Likewise, Allison has said that they just need few enhancements which could prove out to be crucial in the field of the third GP.
“We're bringing new parts which should add up to around two tenths of a second improvement in lap time,” Allison said. “It may not sound like much, but given how close the grids have been so far this season, that is a big deal. Hopefully, it's a bit more
than other people will bring.”
Furthermore, he said that they are eying at improving in all the areas while he said that to reduce the pit stop times is their utmost focus, at present.
“We have to continue improving the lap time of the car and for that we're looking at improvement in all areas. A specific area we've identified for improvement is pit stop times and we are focusing a greater amount of engineering effort in this direction,”
said Allison.
It would be important to mention here that Eric Boullier, the team principal of Lotus said after the second race that they should not be deemed as the second class team anymore.
Moreover, in this season, they have come up with the highest hopes with the return of the Finnish driver and they are aiming at performing at their best while giving a tough competition to the rivals in the front.
