Lotus technical director, James Allison believes that their new car, E21 is competitive and quite reliable after the first pre-season test held at Jerez circuit in Spain.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus topped the timesheets on final day of the first day while his teammate, Romain Grosjean set pace on second day. Furthermore, both the drivers showed positive attitudes for this season at the end of the test and expressed confidence
on their car.
Allison has said that it is extremely important for them to take the most out of the winter testing in order to come up stronger right from the start of this season. Moreover, he said that after the successful first test, they are aiming to make the essential
developments in their in the next two tests.
Besides, he said that they are feeling positive for this season as their car looks competent and dependable after the Jerez test.
"Winter testing is exceedingly precious," he said. "We get just 12 days to prove out a very complex vehicle. Twelve days to push the car and the team to make sure that we are match fit by the time we get to Melbourne. Jerez offers the teams four days of
guaranteed good weather on a challenging track that will stress the car from both a reliability and a performance point of view. We leave this first test in high spirits having learned that the E21 looks both competitive and reasonably reliable."
In addition, he said that they are targeting to bring in a new update in their car before the season opener which is going to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
It will be important to mention that the Enstone based squad performed tremendously well during the last season. However, their qualifying pace was not good enough as compared to their rivals which include Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren, due to which
they couldn’t secure competitive results in quite a few races.
Let’s see whether they will be able to improve their qualifying pace or not and how Raikkonen and Grosjean compete with their major opponents in this season.
