James Allison believes Kimi Raikkonen can win the 2012 Formula 1 World Champion – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that their driver, Kimi Raikkonen has got the potential to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Raikkonen is currently standing at fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Moreover, he has a strong lead over Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and is just a point behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
In addition, he has been deemed as one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship fight. Although, he has not been able to score a grand prix victory in the season so far, however, he has performed tremendously well and has secured five
podium finishes in the first half.
Furthermore, Allison said that even though, the Finn is quite behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, however, he believes that the 2007 world champion has a strong chance to win his second title this year.
“Yeah, why not,” he said. “There is an awful lot of points for coming first and there are a lot of races left to be done. The lead is miniscule compared to points available.”
Additionally, he said that the competition is very tough in the current season and it is extremely difficult to make any kind of predictions about the forthcoming races. He also said that every contender has got the chance to prove itself in the season ahead.
“And anyone who can string together a run of properly competitive races, without mistakes, is going to prosper and the sort of gaps we have in the Championship at the moment are ever so recoverable for team that does that,” he added.
Besides, he said that they are earnestly looking forward to provide the Finnish driver with everything which he may need to improve his pace in the remaining nine races after the ongoing mid-season break.
“That's clearly what we are intending to do, that's clearly what Kimi is intending to do and I think it will be fascinating for anyone,” he said.
Over and above, let’s see how the Enstone based team comes up in the approaching races after the August summer smash.
