James Allison believes Lotus will be competitive at 2013 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that they are expecting to come up stronger to secure competitive results in the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix with their updated car, E21.
Allison said that the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona is quite similar to the Bahrain International Circuit where their drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean delivered amazing performances and managed to secure second and third podium finishes. Therefore,
he stated that they are hoping to be competitive in the forthcoming race.
Besides, he said that although the tyres will degrade early on the circuit in Barcelona, but they have been really good in tyre management in the season so far. Therefore, he asserted that they are eying to attain good points in the approaching race.
“We're pretty well placed. Barcelona is similar in many regards to Bahrain; it's hard on the tyres with some challenging fast stuff thrown in,” he said. “It's not so obviously rear-limited as Bahrain, but is nevertheless a circuit that challenges the tyres
which has been strength of E21 thus far. That said, the start of the so-called European season where many teams unleash raft of their latest upgrades could shake up the order somewhat.”
Moreover, he said that they have planned to introduce some essential updates in their car and are looking forward to compete well with their rivals in the European season so as to make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
“We have new front wing endplate detailing, new aero around rear drums, modifications to diffuser and different top rear wing so there's plenty to help keep us in hunt,” he added.
Additionally, he said that they are aiming to perform well in the qualifying of the Spanish GP for which they are working really hard.
Currently, the Enstone based team is standing at second place in the constructors’ championship. Furthermore, they are ahead of Ferrari and behind their major opponent, Red Bull Racing. It will be exciting to see how they perform in the upcoming race and
whether they will be able to close up the gap to the defending champions or not.
