James Allison claims Lotus Renault GP have learnt a lot after Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP’s James Allison has recently stated that the team has learnt a lot after the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix which was the first event of the year where the team did not secure a single point.
“We discovered, to our cost, the upper limit of the exhaust temperature that our car is capable of withstanding. We have made adjustments to our procedure and our design to avoid a repeat of the failure we saw in Hungary,” he said.
Other than that, he stated that the team is going to try its best to improve the car and cover ‘weak’ areas of the car before the Belgian Grand Prix where the team is expecting some good results since the features of the track are going to suit their car.
“From circuit to circuit the relative contribution of each of these parameters waxes and wanes, but the fundamentals are always the same. For Spa, the features which have somewhat higher prominence than normal are engine power and aerodynamic performance,”
said Allison.
Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit which requires a good aerodynamics and engine performance keeping in mind that the drivers use the tyres as efficiently as possible in order to squeeze out as much performance as they can.
James believes that Spa is one of those circuits which makes a driver perform even faster but for the engineers, it is quite a challenge as the laps are long and has the same number of turns as Monte Carlo despite the fact that Monte Carlo is a smaller circuit
comparatively.
Other than that, he added that the weather conditions are quite unpredictable as well at the Belgian Grand Prix as a result of which it is one of the most dramatic and entertaining race for the fans and a challenge for the drivers.
Renault are hoping to finish ahead of Mercedes GP at the remaining races of the 2011 Formula 1 season in order to finish in 4th place in the constructors’ standings which is not going to be as easy as it sounds for the
team.
