James Allison hopeful for Renault’s better outing in 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault technical director James Allison has said that he is hopeful for his team’s better outing in the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix which will be held on July 31, 2011 at the Hungaroring race circuit.
Allison added that they have fixed all those issues which the team had from the last few races of the 2011 formula 1 season, so he is hopeful the drivers will make improvements in their performances at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend.
Renault technical director discussed with the media that like Monaco, the Hungarian track is another high downforce circuit. Therefore, he said that the qualifying round would be similar to the 2011 Monaco GP and they were not very special during that.
Talking to reporters, Allison said, “Getting a good qualifying lap will involve having a car which has a good high downforce setup and is able to cope with some of the bumps around the track. Setup changes normally yield results which are of the order of
0.1sec/lap, but the track evolution can be over 1sec/lap.”
The Enstone-based outfit technical director informed the media they have a lot of developments for the next five races of the ongoing season, which will be delivered to their R31 car at the right time.
He went on to say, “The rules regarding not working during the FOTA shutdown are quite strict, but they have not closed off the bath musing loophole - two weeks of continuous bathing may be called for! The shutdown is a little frustrating in one sense, but
it is a settled part of the sport now.”
In the recently held German Grand Prix, their driver Nick Heidfeld retired from the Nürburgring race and could not complete in the race due to an accident. His teammate Vitaly Petrov started his race from the ninth position on the grid and finished at the
10th place after struggling a lot on medium and soft tyres at the German racetrack.
After a disappointing race weekend in Nürburgring, Renault are expecting better results from both of their drivers in Hungary this weekend. Let’s see how they manage their race over there.
