James Anderson admits being under pressure after Oval trouncing – Cricket News Update
England’s spearhead pace bowler, James Anderson, on Wednesday admitted that after receiving an innings hammering from formidable South Africa, at The Kia Oval last week, his side was under pressure going into the second Test of the series, which starts at
Leeds, Headingley, on Thursday, August 2.
Speaking to media reporters ahead of the second five-dayer, the Lancashire fast bowler said that the innings and 12-run thrashing from a resilient South African side, at the Oval did not come as a surprise for them.
“We know how resilient they are and how aggressive they can be with the ball,” said Anderson, while speaking to media persons ahead of the second Investec Test against the Proteas. “We were well prepared for them to be like that, we just didn’t have an answer
for them at The Oval,” he added further.
The hosts were outplayed in the series opener last week, where they not only failed to score runs, but their bowlers also struggled against a formidable top order, as the Proteas went on to score 637 for 2 in their first innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557 scored an unbeaten
triple century, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 and Kallis scored phenomenal centuries.
The two sides will next meet at Leeds, Headingley on Thursday. Given the English side's lack of practice at Headingley of late, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 is apprehensive ahead of the 2nd Test, and believes that the Poms will have no real home advantage. He however,
hoped the Leeds wicket to offer some assistance to the pace bowlers, unlike the flat, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-John-Trevor-Miller-c44458 track used for the series at The Oval.
“We know it is going to be a good pitch, hopefully there will be a bit more pace in it then there was at The Oval,” said the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 pacer, who returned with figures of 1 for 116, during the innings defeat at Oval.
“But to be honest, wherever we played after The Oval it was going to be tough for us to get back into the series,” he added further.
