James Anderson bags England’s player of the year award – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705, the 29-year-old pacer, has won England’s player of the year award for 2011/12 season.
The right-arm pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 in a voting poll conducted by England Cricket Board.
This was for the first time in his cricketing career that Anderson won such an award. The right-arm speedster was over the moon after receiving the accolade. Anderson, who is the fifth highest wicket taker for England in Tests,
was also happy with how things have gone his way in the past couple of years.
“The last two years I've shown what I can actually do at this level. The last two years I've been really pleased with - the challenge is to try to keep improving and push. If I maintain the same work ethic that I have done throughout
my career, I don't see why I can't keep this form up for a good few years,” said the 29-year-old, who has taken 258 Test scalps for England in 68 games.
Anderson, along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501, has a chance to improve
on his standings in the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.
The Caribbean side’s main strength lies in their bowling, while their batting, apart from Shivnerine Chanderpaul, looks quite mediocre.
Anderson’s main responsibility will be to fetch quick wickets for England by taking advantage of home conditions and this exactly what the pacer is hoping to do.
He said, “We'd love to make early inroads. That's my Stuart's job. But from watching West Indies against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 recently, they showed glimpses of a talented side. We can't just expect them to roll over. They're going to put
up a fight. It's going to be a challenge for us.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour of England kicks-off from Thursday, May 17 with a five day game at Lord's, London. The first Test match will be followed by games at Trent Bridge, Nottingham and Edgbaston, Birmingham.
