James Anderson called up for South Africa T20s – Cricket News Update
England have called up fast bowler James Anderson in their T20 squad for the three-match home series against South Africa, as cover for fellow pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday confirmed the news of Anderson's call-up in a statement on its official website.
"James Anderson has been called into the squad for the T20 series against South Africa as cover for Steven Finn who has a stiff back," read the statement.
Anderson, 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 seamer, has not played a T20 International for England since November 2009. His last T20 appearance was also against the South Africans, at Centurion, on November 15, 2009.
Finn, 23, is nursing a stiff back and with less than a week before the English team departs for the World T20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, the ECB selectors decided not to risk with his injury. The right-arm medium pace bowler was also rested for the fifth and final ODI against the Proteas, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Wednesday. Chris Woakes had replaced him in the final encounter, which the Poms lost by seven wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, the ODI skipper of England, backed ECB selectors’ move to rest Finn saying it was wise to take a careful approach with the Hertfordshire pacer, who will in all probability share new ball with Stuart Broad in the World T20, later this month.
"You do have to be careful with the amount of cricket coming up," said Cook, who has recently been given reins of national Test side as well, following http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964’ retirement.
"It was a very sensible decision, I think. It would have looked quite stupid if he'd tried to play and it had then suddenly got worse," he added further.
The three-T20 series between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The second T20 will be played at Old Trafford, on Monday, while the third and final encounter will be hosted by Edgbaston on Wednesday, September 12.
