Former English pacer, Matthew Hoggard, has come out in support of James Anderson, saying that the fast bowler is moving on the right track to become the highest wicket-taker for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in
Test cricket.
So far in his 63-Test-old career, Anderson has bagged 240 wickets, the highest by any bowler in the current English crew. Moreover, he is just 143 behind the former English skipper, Ian Botham,
who is England’s highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game.
Enjoying fabulous form these days, the 29-year-old seamer played a pivotal role in team’s comprehensive triumph in the recent series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, claiming 21 scalps in four games.
Anderson gathered a lot of praise from across the world for his great show against the top batting guns such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772. Anderson’s excellent show with
the ball also helped him seal the second position in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test bowlers’ rankings.
Fascinated by Anderson’s superb performance in the longer version of the game over the last few years, Hoggard had to say that Anderson has all the potential to pick up 400 Test wickets which
have never been achieved by any Englishman.
“Jimmy’s been fantastic. He still has another 150 wickets or so to take to get to the very top and that’s a lot of wickets. I think he’s led the England attack really well. He’s a very skilful
bowler,” said Hoggard.
Although, the former seamer described that Anderson’s ultimate goal should be to become England’s leading wicket-taker, he suggested him to first set sights on 300-mark.
He explained that since the Lancashire-born cricketer is just 29 years old, he has a lot of cricket left in his career. Meanwhile, Hoggard expressed no doubt over Anderson ability to touch
400-mark, provided he stays fit in the coming years.
“I think he’ll rise through the ranks and will probably be well above me by the time he retires. But to get 300 wickets would be a very tough task,” added the 34-year-old former pacer who
grabbed 248 wickets during his 67-Test-old career.
