James Anderson confident Lancashire will avoid championship relegation – Cricket News Update
Lancashire ace pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705, on Wednesday backed his county to avoid a dreaded relegation in the LV = County Championship, from Division One to Two.
After finishing last year’s County Championship Division One at the top, the Lancashire County Cricket Club is sweating over a probable drop in the tournament.
With only one win in 11 matches played so far, this season last year’s champions find themselves seventh in the nine-team competition, only above http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782.
Anderson, who turned 30 on Monday, was astonished to see the side at the bottom of the points table.
“I am surprised we are down there because we are defending champions and have roughly the same team as last season,” said the lanky medium pacer.
“We don’t seem to have got going really this year...we had just beaten Durham in the Championship and that could have kick-started something,” he added further.
The Lightnings have five games in hand to save their Division One status, and Anderson is hopeful the side would bounce back in the ensuing games to secure their Division status.
“Everyone is looking at it positively because we have guys who know how to win games,” said the speedster, who is preparing for the second Investec Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 starting at Leeds, Headingley, tomorrow, August 2.
“These players were involved in a lot of close games last season which we came out on top in, helping us to the title. And that shows we have character in the dressing room,” he added further.
Anderson also expressed confidence in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Moores-c81848 to turn things around.
The English paceman has played only one championship match for the county this season due to a busy schedule with national team. However, he may join the club in the later stages of the championship and play part in their survival bid.
His only Championship appearance for Lancashire this season, had come in the defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826, at Old Trafford, Manchester, in May.
Lancashire will next play No. 3 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 at Liverpool, between August 1 and 4.
